Document Sciences Announces Second Quarter 2000 Results

SAN DIEGO (July 27, 2000) - Document Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: DOCX – news) today reported a net loss for the quarter ended June 30, 2000 of $382,875 compared with net income of $259,077 for the quarter ended June 30, 1999. Net loss per share for the quarter ended June 30, 2000 was $0.04, based on 10,757,528 shares outstanding, compared with net income per share of $0.02, based on 10,787,734 fully diluted shares outstanding for the same quarter in 1999. Revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2000, were $5.2 million, compared with $6.0 million reported for the quarter ended June 30, 1999.

Net income for the six months ended June 30, 2000 was $31,037, or $0.00 per share based on 11,460,847 fully diluted shares outstanding, compared with net income of $484,882, or $0.04 per share based on 10,794,595 fully diluted shares outstanding, for the six months ended June 30, 1999. Revenues for the six months ending June 30, 2000 were $10.9 million compared with revenue of $11.5 million for the same period in 1999.

Barton Faber, Document Sciences’ President and CEO said, "We remain encouraged with our growth from initial and annual license fees, which combined were 18%, or $1.4 million, higher for the six months ended June 30, 2000 than for the same period of 1999. Unfortunately, this growth couldn’t overcome the weakness in our services component during the first half of this year."
